Two days later Mrs. Stein is visiting and observes the nurse giving her husband a new medication. She questions the nurse, Ms. Adams, who explains that the medication is an antibiotic for his pneumonia, which Dr. Carlton, the facility doctor, had ordered.
Mrs. Stein then explained that she and Dr. Miles had decided to withhold antibiotics. However, the nurse insisted that Mr. Stein must receive the antibiotic and that without it he won’t survive the pneumonia.
Mrs. Stein was surprised and upset. Ms. Adams has always taken good care of George and Mrs. Stein has never had a problem with her. Mrs. Stein calls Dr. Miles, who agrees to visit the facility and see if she can straighten out the situation.
