Case 3: Waiting for a miracle

  • Patient and family may acknowledge nature of the situation-grave, poor function
  • May not agree to appropriate care
    • Insisting on aggressive care
    • Refusal to accept palliative care/hospice
  • Refusal to believe that patient might die based on faith that ‘God’ will answer prayers if they pray hard enough
  • May request that you pray with them
